Driving is more than just a journey from one place to another. It’s a connection to history, a deep-felt experience that transcends the mere mechanics of modern vehicles.

For enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike, classic cars represent a golden era of automotive design and performance. They capture the essence of an age when driving was an art form.

Among the illustrious examples of BMW classic cars, the BMW 840ci and the BMW 640i XDrive Coupe stand out as prime examples of driving pleasure and sophistication.

The Legacy of the BMW 840ci

BMW 8 Series E31 (840CI)

The , part of the E31 8 Series, debuted in 1990 as a luxury grand tourer that combined high-performance with cutting-edge technology. Its design was a bold statement, with its sleek, aerodynamic lines. Its distinctive kidney grilles are instantly recognizable to any car enthusiast.

The 840ci was engineered to deliver an exceptional driving experience. It blended power, precision, and comfort in a way that few other cars of its era could match.

One of the most compelling aspects of driving the BMW 840ci is its refined and powerful engine. The 4.0-liter V8 engine, producing 282 horsepower, provides a combination of sound and performance that is both thrilling and sophisticated.

The acceleration is smooth and powerful, propelling the car effortlessly through any gear. This engine, combined with the car’s precise handling and responsive steering, creates a driving experience both exhilarating and luxurious.

The BMW 840ci not only represents an undeniable piece of BMW’s history but also embodies the spirit of classic cars that enthusiasts cherish.

The Evolution to the BMW 640i XDrive Coupe

The 640i XDrive Coupe features a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with turbocharging, delivering 320 horsepower. This engine, while smaller in displacement compared to the 840ci, uses advanced technology to provide impressive performance and efficiency.

The power delivery here is smooth and linear. It has a level of refinement that demonstrates the advancements in engine technology since the days of the 840ci.

One of the most noticeable features of the BMW 640i XDrive Coupe is its all-wheel-drive system. This system improves traction and stability, particularly in adverse weather conditions.

The XDrive system provides for equal 4-wheel drive power distribution, providing exceptional control and grip. This feature, combined with the car’s advanced suspension system and precise steering, joins forces for a driving experience that is both dynamic and confident.

Inside the 640i XDrive Coupe, the focus on modern luxury is clear. The cabin is embellished with high-quality materials and cutting-edge technology, creating an environment that is both comfortable and connected.

The seats are designed for the utmost support. They have a range of adjustments to make sure that every driver and passenger can find their perfect position.

The infotainment system, with its intuitive interface and advanced connectivity features, means that drivers can stay connected while enjoying their journey.

Comparing the Classic and Modern Driving Experience

While the BMW 840ci and the BMW 640i XDrive Coupe are products of different eras, both embody the essence of what makes BMW a popular brand in the automotive world.

The 840ci represents a time when driving was all about the connection between the car and the driver, with a focus on raw power and mechanical precision. Its classic design and performance characteristics make it a cherished model among enthusiasts.

For other classic car lovers, the BMW 640i XDrive Coupe shows how modern technology has transformed the driving experience. The advances in engine technology, drivetrain systems, and onboard amenities reflect the evolving expectations of today’s drivers. The 640i XDrive Coupe provides a refined and sophisticated driving experience that makes the most of the best of contemporary automotive engineering.

Despite these differences, both vehicles share a common thread: a commitment to delivering an exceptional driving experience. The 840ci’s blend of power and luxury is evident in the 640i XDrive Coupe’s combination of performance and modern convenience.

Each model, in its own way, highlights the lasting appeal of classic cars and the ongoing evolution of automotive excellence.

The Long-Term Appeal of Classic Cars

The appeal of classic cars like the BMW 840ci is not just in their design and performance – it is in the sense of nostalgia and connection they evoke. Driving a classic car is like stepping back in time, experiencing firsthand the innovations and design philosophies of a bygone era.

For many enthusiasts, the joy of driving a classic car can hardly be separated from the appreciation of its historical significance and the craftsmanship that went into its creation.

Modern classics like the BMW 640i XDrive Coupe represent the latest advancements in automotive technology while still honoring the traditions of their predecessors. These vehicles give you a glimpse into how far the automotive industry has come. Yet they still maintain the core values that define great driving experiences.

Overall, whether it’s the timeless appeal of the BMW 840ci or the advanced features of the BMW 640i XDrive Coupe, classic cars offer a unique and memorable driving experience. Each model, with its distinct characteristics and technological advancements, is a perfect example of the ongoing evolution of the automobile and the ever-lasting passion for driving that connects enthusiasts, generation after generation.

The BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe has been caught during testing with heavy camo-prints on the front and back. The 8-Series came out back in 2019 as a coupe and a year later the gran coupe was launched for the more practical buyers.

The new vehicle will fit in as a mid-cycle facelift for the 8-series and it will most likely come out next year as a 2023 model. BMW is known to test their vehicles well before the release date so something like this is not uncommon.

From the photos, it is clear that the upcoming car will have a heavily modified front-end. Facelifts are usually subtle but it seems BMW has something else in mind. Similarly, the rear is hidden from plain view, meaning the changes are not limited to the front fascia.

2023-bmw-8series-gran-coupe

The insides of the prototype were also spotted but most of the center console and dash were covered. BMW might be working on a fresh new infotainment screen design. The current setup consists of a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, which might be upgraded.

2023-bmw-8series-gran-coupe

The German company is also unveiling the new iDrive interface on March 15th so details about the revamped infotainments system will be revealed soon.

The 2023 BMW 8-series Gran Coupe might have the same drivetrain lineup or the brand could go with something different. It is unclear which route they take. If BMW stays with the current setup we could see the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 that produces 335 hp, the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, or the i=high-performance version of the same engine, making 600 hp.

BMW will probably add a hybrid or a PHEV variant to the mix to make their models future-proof. The Alpina tuned 8-Series gran coupe is also coming soon so there are few exciting months ahead.

The BMW 8 Series Coupe is the crown jewel in the German brand’s vehicle lineup. The vehicle exudes luxury and class like no other, but having said that, BMW believes in making something that is great even better.

The 8 Series is getting a new makeover and it has been spotted during testing with a camouflaged front fascia. The sporty coupe was spotted on the public roads somewhere in Germany. From the pictures, it is evident that the car will have a tweaked grille and bumper. The headlights might get a slight brush-up but we can’t say for sure until further pictures are released.

bmw-8-series-coupe

The Coupe’s cousin the Gran Coupe was spotted a few days earlier and it had a similar camo covering its front-end. However, the coupe’s entire bumper is covered whereas the GC version had a slight opening in the middle to allow the adaptive cruise control sensor to work.

The rear-end of the two vehicles is also similarly covered with camo. The rear bumper looks to be slightly different from last year’s model and the taillights give off a different vibe.

The news regarding the powertrain is still a bit scarce. The new model is expected to run the same roster of engines as before with some minor changes to the output. The 8 Series Coupe is sportier, meaning BMW might add a few horses to the mix but European emission standards might not allow that to happen.

The BMW 8 Series Coupe facelift will come out early next year as the 2022 model.

Anybody who turned into the recent MotoGP event in Austria might have noticed a familiar (but well decorated) car on the front row – the M8 Competition. It’s no sooner been launched than starting its duty as the chosen safety car of MotoGP events going forward, replacing the M5 in the process.

This year supplying MotoGP events with safety cars, and the company was never likely to allow the occasion to pass without a celebration of some kind. We can’t think of a better celebration than showcasing such a beautiful car on the starting grid – nor such a reliable performer to ensure safety on the track when the occasion calls for it.
In almost all ways, the safety car version of the M8 Competition is identical to the version of the car which you can drive on the streets. Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine capable of 617 horsepower, connected to an 8-speed Drivelogic transmission and the cutting-edge ‘xDrive’ system which enables all-wheel drive. At top speed, the car shows just as much racing form as the motorcycles around it! The car was secretly being tested on Germany’s Nurburgring before gaining approval for use in races, but has also undergone winter testing in Sweden to ensure that it’s capable of doing the job required of it in all weather conditions.

Despite the similarities, there are a few ways in which the safety car variant of the M8 Competition differs from the vehicle you can pick up from your local BMW dealership. The most visually obvious is the enormous rear wing, which it’s inherited from the M8 GTE. A purpose-built front splitter has been added, along with carbon side skirts, a rear diffuser, a specialized exhaust system, and of course the racing livery which makes it appear so distinctive. You wouldn’t find it as comfortable to drive as the street car though – the roll cage and the fire safety equipment within the car have come at the expense of some of the comforts and luxuries!

Although a safety car would never be required to accelerate to the same speed as a racing motorbike, the M8 Competition isn’t far off. The top speed of a MotoGP bike is around two hundred miles per hour. When the M8 Competition is pushed flat out, it can reach 186 miles per hour, going from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Thanks to the exhaust system which we mentioned above, if it were at top speed, it would sound as aggressive a racing vehicle as any of the motorcycles around it!

Markus Flasch, President of BMW M, was particularly enthused about the new safety car. He pointed out that the sharing of parts was made possible because the BMW 8 was developed at the same time as the BMW M8 GTE, and that the racetrack environment was both considered and tested upon at all stages of production. He believes that the car represents the most powerful safety car ever supplied for MotoGP events, but also vows that his team will continue to push for an even more powerful model next year.

The arrival of the new safety car comes at a crucial point in the MotoGP season, with the race for the championship hanging finely in the balance. The first race to feature the new BMW was one of the most nail-biting of the season, with Andrea Dovizioso waiting until the very final corner of the race to pass Marc Marquez and . It was only the second win of the season for Dovizioso, and keeps him within striking range of Marquez at the top of the leaderboard. Marquez currently leads by 58 points, and with a victory could have started considering himself the favorite to walk away with the title at the end of the season, but Dovizioso has everything to play for, and Marquez has been left to rue his last-minute failure to protect his lead.

With Danilo Petrucci now a distant third and with only one win all season, fending off Alex Rins down in fourth place by only twelve points, it appears that the battle at the top of the table has split into two groups of two – Marquez and Dovizioso fighting for the championship, and Petrucci and Rins battling out to see who’ll take the honor of third place. Behind them is a legend trying to find his way back into the fight. Valentino Rossi – who many people feel is the greatest motorcycle racing driver of all time, is in fifth. Rossi suffered the indignity of failing to score three times a row this season, with zero points recorded in the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy, and those failures have cost the 40-year-old icon any realistic prospect of taking the championship. Since then he’s been back among the points for the last three races in a row, and will be determined to finish what may yet prove to be his last season in the sport as well as he possibly can.

A resurgent Rossi would certainly set the cat among the pigeons further up the table – especially if he starts finishing between Marquez and Dovizioso. That’s why odds on who’ll finally come out on top have been so erratic with bookmakers; in some cases, you’d have just as much chance of predicting the outcome if you were putting your money into mobile slots instead of giving it to a sports bookmaker. Rossi may not have the sleek, sophisticated visual charm of a mobile slots game like ‘Light Racers,’ but he’s every bit as unpredictable as the next spin of the reels on any game you’ll find on a mobile slots website. If he gets the bit between his teeth and believes that the finishing line is in sight for his career, he’s unlikely to let the championship prospects of any of his rivals concern him too much. Motor racing, like , comes with a jackpot prize – and Rossi will want to cash in before he heads off into the sunset.
If you’re a motorsports fan, you could do a lot worse than find a way to watch the final few races of the MotoGP season and see how it plays out – and as an added bonus, you know there will be a beautiful safety car to look at if it all goes wrong on the track!

Following the official announcement of the 2019 BMW 8-Series Convertible in both variants – entry-level 840d xDrive and top of the range M850i xDrive – the German based carmaker revealed today that the model would head to production at its Dingolfing facility in Germany, thus joining the 8-Series Coupe sibling.

However, not only the 8-Series range will be built there, with BMW allocating new financial resources to also build the new 5-Series and the already famous 7-Series. However, the investment for the 8-Series alone is around $100 million.

Why choosing to built the 8-Series at Dingolfing facility alongside the new 5-Series and 7-Series?

Well, this is what BMW AG Member of the Board of Management, Oliver Zipse, declared back in 2016 about the facility`s competences in developing the most important models:

“Dingolfing will remain our competence center for production of upper-class BMW series. The high level of flexibility within our global production network and reliable cooperation with our partner, Magna Steyr, will enable us to respond swiftly to the strong customer demand we anticipate for the world’s most successful business limousine.“

Also, back in June when the carmaker revealed the 8-Series Coupe, Dr. Andreas Vendt declared that the Dingolfing facility is the proper place to build the new model, as it offers “a large number of digital innovations” which “have also been integrated into the production process.”

“As the plant that builds the BMW 7-Series sedans, BMW Group Plant Dingolfing has outstanding expertise in producing vehicles for the luxury segment. “We are optimally prepared for production of the new BMW 8-Series Coupe. I am sure our customers around the world will love this luxury sports car,“ Dr. Andreas Vendt also stated.

The carmaker`s latest “kid on the block”, the 8-Series Convertible borrows its sibling`s exquisite design language and suite of technology inside the cabin. It also comes with two powerful engines, which make it high-performance. We are dealing here with a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine available in the 840d xDrive and which develops 315 horsepower and 680 Nm of torque. On the other side is the M850i xDrive top of the line, with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, churning out 523 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque.

Following a series of leaked images some time ago, the German-based carmaker BMW has officially released the video presentation of the all-new 2019 BMW 8-Series Convertible.

The video is showcasing the M850i Convertible in its latest design language, revealing as well the luxurious interior and the raw power under the hood.

As we all know already, in terms of design, the 2019 BMW 8-Series Convertible carries over the company`s new philosophy, also seen on the Coupe variant. It is beauty at its finest, an exceptional piece of German engineering that demonstrates one more time BMW`s supremacy in that field.

The 2019 BMW 8-Series Convertible is at the same time, beautiful, aggressive, intimidating and refined, coming with evolutionary design lines. The main highlights on the outside is the now much wider grille which enhances the front fascia`s aggressive look. The grille is also flanked by adaptive LED headlights with laserlight technology, while adding LED taillights, trapezoidal exhaust tips or 20-inch M lightweight alloys.

The new 2019 BMW 8-Series M850i Convertible also comes with a retractable soft top that can be raised or lowered in no less than 15 seconds, and that at speeds up to 48 km/h. The convertible also features an automatic rollover protecting system, deploying around ‘’to high-strength aluminum roll bars within a fraction of a section.”

Optionally, those wanting a flashier look, can also buy the M Carbon Exterior, which adds more goodies, all made from carbon fiber. You should thus be able to get new mirror caps, “air intake bars” and rear diffuser insert.

Just like the 8-Series Coupe, the M850i xDrive is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol burner, and paired to a high-performance eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

However, for the soft top, the power is set at 523 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4.0 seconds; however, we do not know exactly the performance figure. On the other hand, its coupe sibling manages the same sprint in 3.7 seconds. The top speed is electronically-limited at 250 km/h.

Following a series of renderings, teaser images and spy photos lately, the gorgeous and intimidating 2019 8-Series Convertible has been revealed in the first leaked photos, just ahead its official unveiling at this year`s 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, which will take place this month.

The images were released by Belgian website Autotijn and are presenting the gorgeous and intimidating top of the line M850i xDrive. It is muscular, wide and features rather the same styling bits as it featured during test times, even if part of the body was covered in camouflage.

Just like the hard top, only it looks more luxurious, the drop top 8-Series features the exotic Barcelona Blue Metallic body wrap along with a couple of Cerium grey inserts on the kidney grille and air breathers.

The car`s aggressive look is also given by the massive kidney grille and the slim headlights and taillights, the latter one extending into the rear body panels. There is also a contoured bonnet and carbon fiber at the rear that surround the exhaust tips, all contributing to its imposing personality.

Just like the 8-Series Coupe, the M850i xDrive is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol burner, and paired to a high-performance eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

Full details are expected at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, next month. Meanwhile, take a closer look at the first leaked photos with the 2019 BMW 8-Series Convertible and tell us if you like the soft top model!

Without a doubt, BMW is one of the most famous automakers. Few people could truly say that they’ve never heard of the famous Bavarian brand. With such a reputation, there’s no surprise when it comes to fans trying to imagine all sorts of models that BMW could produce, even if these models will probably never come into existence. This particular BMW 8 Series rendering is a great example of this.

Right from the start you can notice the amount of work that went into this particular render project. The vehicle looks as if it were a real BMW model. In fact, it does make one think of how the world would look if BMW would indeed decide to produce a supercar model. With a car like this, BMW would definitely hit the jackpot. At this point, all BMW fans dream about a day in which this vehicle or a similar supercar model would exit the gates of BMW’s factories. The demand would most likely be overwhelming.

Being based on the 8 Series, you can immediately notice that this particular supercar rendering relies heavily on the original model’s design particularities. While the overall design of the rendering looks more aerodynamic, you can immediately tell that the rendering’s core elements are identical to those of the BMW 8 Series. The added decals give the rendered car a sporty feel. The interesting thing is that this rendering manages to combine sporty with elegant into a package that does not seem out of place.

This rendering also gives us an idea of how much competition BMW could provide to famous supercar manufacturers such as Lamborghini and Ferrari. It gives us a preview of what BMW could achieve, provided it was interested in entering the supercar market. However, such a move on BMW’s behalf is highly improbable. Apart from the investments that would need to be made in the construction of a whole new research and design department, BMW would also need to make sure it brings something new to the supercar manufacturing table.

This particular BMW 8 Series rendering is one of the most interesting. It makes one question the sustainability of a BMW supercar, while giving all BMW fans a small preview of how such a project would look if it were indeed real. The overall enthusiasm regarding the potential existence of a BMW supercar is the result of all the hard work put into this particular rendering.

When you think of BMW, you think of the perfect balance between performance and comfort. The Bavarian automaker’s vehicle models are known around the world. Targeting different markets and different tastes, BMW’s vehicles are spread around the whole world. It is no surprise that at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, BMW, like always, has come prepared to steal the show with the launch of new car models as well as performance upgrades. What nobody anticipated was BMW’s decision to show the world an 8 Series based concept car.

The first thing people want to know is how this concept actually looks. Is it going to b a futuristic, never destined for production, model? Is it a preview of something we will see in the future on the streets? Indeed, the concept will offer the world a sneak peek into the future of one of BMW’s car models. It will be interesting to see what gadgets it will be fitted with and what the engine that powers the vehicle looks like. Other interesting matters to see regarding this BMW concept will be to see the evolution of the design path for the Bavarian automaker.

Without a doubt, BMW will once again steal the show with the announcements it will make at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. It will be interesting to follow the evolution of the show itself with comparisons between the event before and after BMW’s announcements. Regardless of how you look at the situation, BMW’s concept is probably one of the most interesting announced surprises at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Everybody is looking forward to the start of the show and to the announcements BMW has to make. With a steadily growing fan base, this is no surprise.

The only certain thing is that BMW will release further information regarding what it will display at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The Bavarian automaker will give details about the mystery concept car as well. At this point, one can only wait and see. Of course, speculations are being made, however, these are not to be taken in account, as they have not been confirmed by an official source. To put it simply, information is scarce and the only thing that can be said with certainty about BMW’s concept is that it will be present at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

While the upcoming BMW M140 from the 1-Series is still getting its hard testing on the Ring, other test mules like the new X5 SUV and the long-awaited BMW 8-Series Coupe were seen spotted for some road tests in Slovenia.

Thesd are not the first spy photos with the two models, but it is definitely a premiere seeing them cruising together and still wearing heavy camouflage. That means that both of them are still faraway from their official unveiling next year.

Just as expected, both new models will be sharing the same CLAR modular architecture, also underpinning the new 5-Series and 7-Series, meaning more lightweight materials and a wide range of engines underneath their skin. The same platform will also allow for a Convertible and a hardcore M8 variant in the 8-Series.

Following latest spy shots in Copenhagen this spring, the all-new BMW X5 is back into the spotlights with its final shape. It looks refreshed with the much larger kidney grilles, more accentuated shark nose and smaller taillights.

Inside, the cabin is also likely to borrow the technological suite from the new 5-Series, while in the engine department we will see a wide range of petrol burners and diesels. Thanks to the same CLAR platform, the new X5 SUV will also shed off around 300 kg, improving the car`s handling characteristics and fuel economy.

As for the upcoming 8-Series, the model will take its design language from the 8-Series Concept, but the heavy camouflage won`t reveal its final shape; at least not just yet. Inside, the cabin of the 8-Series test mule is also likely to borrow the Concept`s technological goodies and design. Thus, we expect to see at least the same gauge cluster or button configuration.

As for the future M8, the top range model is set to “be built on the genes of the 8-Series and augment its DNA with added track ability and generous extra portions of dynamic sharpness, precision and agility,” as BMW M chief Frank van Meel, once declared. The engine lineup technical details for the new 8-Series and M8 remain hidden at the moment.
