Besides the ordinary drag races that we get to see conventional models getting their piece of the action, there are also “those” kind of races where technology meets raw power. And that is exactly what happens in the drag race below.

We have recently had the pleasure…or not…depending how you look at it, of seeing the Giulia`s top of the line QV taking on the BMW i8. We are actually looking here at sheer power vs technology.

Let`s not forget that the new Alfa Romeo Giulia QV was released as the direct competitor of the BMW M3, and sadly, the German car is not match for such a Italian beast, not even with the Competition Package.

So, Bay Area Racing from California, which deals with organizing exquisite racing events, has decided to put the QV head-to-head with the BMW i8. The entire drag race can be seen in the video below, but before you watch it, just see both cars` general characteristics.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia QV is taking its power from a 3.0-liter turbo V6 unit, developing a good 510 horsepower, ready to tackle the 0 to 100 km/h short straight line in 3.9 seconds. Adding the carbon fiber elements on the body and you have an impressive ride.

On the other hand, the BMW i8 comes with a I5 three-cylinder turbocharged TwinPower Turbo engine, developing 231 horsepower and sending the power to the rear axle. The conventional mill is coupled to an electric drive system which adds an extra 131 horsepower, all being sent to the front.

With all this sheer power, the plug-in hybrid is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, which makes it more outstanding than the M3 or M4. Now, you get to choose which one is the fastest in the straight line run.

Drag races usually offer us a fun way to test out different models and check out if the performance figures on papers match those on the tarmac. But there are drag races that involve more than just a figure comparison – they give us a reality check, especially if they put head-to-head two entirely different cars, in terms of chassis, body style and performance under the hood.

I mean, why would you put a small and apparently a fragile BMW 1M next to a massive BMW X6 M50d in a drag race? However, you know what they say: size does not always matter…and the video below might prove that right.

Even with the visible differences between the two of them, in terms of performance figures we are looking at a good report. However, even if the X6 looks and feels more powerful, the 1M has the advantage of being smaller and lighter.

To start with the BMW 1M Coupe, the model comes with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, with 335 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, enough to deliver a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.

On the other hand, the BMW X6 M50d packs a 3.0-liter tri-turbocharged engine, with 375 horsepower and 740 Nm of torque. Even if it comes with higher power, the model is a tad slower, with around 0.3 seconds, due to its massive body styling.

Now that we know a little about both cars, push the play button to see for yourself if the BMW 1M Coupe manages to beat up the massive X6 M50d on a straight line race!

We have seen hundreds of races so far involving equally-matching models with the sole purpose of finding out which one is the best, and the latest video to pop up on the web puts head-to-head other three outstanding models.

We are looking here at a race which involves a BMW 240i, Porsche 718 Cayman as well as an Audi TTS, all of them coming with rather the same power yet being slightly different when it comes to torque features.

Visually, all three models come with advanced aerodynamics, highlighted by their light chassis and high-performance composites around their bodies. However, one`s heavier body style might be another`s advantage on a straight line run.

The BMW 240i comes with enough power to impress its audience. We are looking here at a good 335 horsepower and impressive 500 Nm of torque, allowing an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds.

The 240i`s straight line run is closer to that of the Audi`s TTS, which packs 305 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. The car`s main advantage over the 240i is that is more lightweight with around 85 kg.

On the other hand, the Porsche 718 Cayman develops the least, around 295 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, with the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h to be done in 4.9 seconds.

Well, these are all just figures on papers. You could watch the video below put together by Sport Auto magazine, to make a better judgement on all three`s real figures!

It is not very often we get to see three extraordinary sports cars riding head-to-head in a cool drive which highlights their exquisite characteristics, from head to toe. And what better way to portrait the exceptional driving capabilities and fine aerodynamics than turning against each other the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, Porsche Panamera Turbo and the Mercedes-AMG S63?

Autocar has put those three head-to-head thanks to their similarities in design, interior tweaks, advanced architecture and sheer performance under the hood. It can all be admired in the video below. Enjoy it, but not before we took a closer look at all three`s main highlights.

First off, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe comes fitted with the Competition Package which indicates improve boost from the start. We are looking here at a pure BMW product with an evolutionary design and advanced chassis, with a massive 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood, which produces no less than 600 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, being sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed DCT. That allows a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

On the other hand, Porsche`s new Panamera Turbo is well-known for its exceptional capabilities and innovations in the engine world. The sports car comes with an upgraded 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, with 550 horsepower, being sent to all wheels via a high-performance ZF eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, which is magnificent.

Last but not least, the Mercedes-AMG S63 is another monster when it comes to raw power. This one here features a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, churning out 577 horsepower and sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. The car`s automatic transmission also sends the power to all wheels.

So, we have got the official performance figures, which place our beloved BMW M6 Gran Coupe third place. It remains to see if those official figures on paper have anything to do with what we will experience on the track. Enjoy the video!

The BMW M2 Coupe and the Porsche 918 Boxster S are two extraordinary sports cars that can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in blink of an eye, especially because of their small chassis and improved aerodynamics.

Recently, both models were engaged into a drag race, highlighted in the video below. The video was put together by CarMagazine in what they call the annual “Performance Shootout”, illustrating thus the raw power of the two models. Before jumping into the wrong conclusions and placing your bets on one of the model, just take a closer look at what each car has to offer in terms of performance.

To start with the BMW M2 Coupe, the carmaker`s “baby-M” and the preferred one for dozens of tuning companies worldwide, comes with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six engine underneath its skin, capable of squeezing out 365 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque, and being sent to the rear via a seven-speed DCT.

It can deliver a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a blasting 4.4 seconds, at a top speed of 250 km/h. Otherwise, the model comes fitted with the M Performance Parts at the exterior, which also increase its agility and driving dynamics.

On the other hand, the Boxster 718 Boxster S in its latest generation uses the brand-new 2.5-liter flat-four turbocharged pot, churning out 345 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, with a 4.5 seconds achieved from 0 to 100 km/h, via a conventional automatic transmission.

However, if fitted with the optional Sport Chrono package and the high-performance PDK transmission, the sports car is able to deliver the same sprint in a blasting 4.2 seconds. The car`s main advantage is that it is around 150 kg much more lightweight than the M2 Coupe, a real deal that can make the difference in a drag race with the right driver behind the steering.

Who do you thing might win this battle here?

We have seen lately some strange drag races between cars with uneven performance, size and straight line sprint, like the recent match between an M2 Coupe and an Audi A8. Now, another drag race has popped up online, putting head-to-head a customized BMW M5 and a stock Lamborghini Huracan.

The differences between the two of them are visible from miles away and one that thinks a stock F10 BMW M5 would be a match for the Huracan, would be just another full. This is why perhaps the video below showcases a tuned-up M5 to kinda cope with the supercar`s superpowers.

Even if we are looking here at an F10 BMW M5 modified by ESS tuner company, the chances of beating up the Lamborghini Huracan are pretty low. Even so, it is worth seeing the two of them going full throttle.

First, the F10 BMW M5 is extremely big and heavy, coming with a bulk design and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which develops 560 horsepower and 680 Nm of torque, in the stock form. However, with the new modifications from ESS, the model now develops somewhere between 600 horsepower and 800 horsepower, which is a wild guess.

On the other hand, the Lamborghini Huracan comes with advanced aerodynamics and a much lighter body styling, weighing just 1.4 tones and featuring a 5.2-liter V10 engine. The stock form sets it at 610 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque, the power being sent to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This allows a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds; and that would be the Huracan`s main advantage. Enjoy the video!

Racing on public roads has become more and more frequent these days, with a lot of heavily modified sports cars being engaged in dangerous burn outs and drag races.

This is exactly what happened with the driver of this nitrous E36 BMW M3 who believed that his ride was more powerful than the 1,300 HP Volkswagen Golf RS V10.

As we can see in the video below, the driver of the M3 was reckless enough to push the pedal to the medal, activating the car`s nitrous in an attempt to fast pass the Golf RS seen here.

Both models are found on a freeway, with the M3 driver losing control while trying to tackle the Golf model by activating the nitrous mode. In his attempt, the driver lost control and the car`s rear stepped out the freeway, even if he tried to gain control by hard breaking. Eventually, the driver hit the barrier extremely hard, flying and spinning throughout the air, reaching the opposite lane; fortunately for him, he got away with just a few bruises.

The impact could have been harder and the driver could have suffered serious injuries if it hadn’t been for the additional roll cage and other safety measures inside the cabin.

The E36 BMW M3 seen here “was” powered by a 5.0-liter V10 and fully packed with nitrous injection, while its “opponent”, a Volkswagen Golf RS V10 was taking its power from a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V10 with whopping 1,300 horsepower, which is just about enough to take on any hypercar available out there on the market today, not to mention an E36 M3.

The gorgeous and outstanding BMW M4 is back into the spotlights again, this time the model getting a special edition which celebrates Marco Wittmann`s 2016 DTM championship title, the model being called the DTM Champion Edition.

We are looking here at a limited edition of just 200 units, each one available in Germany from 148,500 euros. This wouldn`t be the first DTM Champion Edition limited run dediacted to Marco Wittmann, the carmaker also releasing a limited run back in 2014, with the same occassion.

As we can depict from the impressive photo gallery below, the BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition doesn’t disappoint from a visual standpoint, the racer coming with the gorgeous Alpine White body wrap, complemented with the M`s distinctive livery and a choice of three colours.

As for the styling elements, the BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition stands out from the crowd with new front bumper with distinctive canards, wider front splitter, side skirts add-ons, carbon fiber wing mirrors, towering rear wing and custom rear diffuser. The new aero kit is highlighted by the new alloy wheels finished in matte grey and looking extraordinary with the carbon ceramic brakes.

Inside, the cabin is also tweaked with sporty features, including the M carbon fiber bucket seats with Alcantara and merino leather, M sports steering wheel, white rollover bar replacing the rear seats and other high-end trims surrounding the interior.

Under the hood, the BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition features the stock 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder with the water injection system borrowed from the hardcore BMW M4 GTS. This means a power output as well as opposed to the standard M4.

We are looking here at an impressive 493 horsepower and whopping 600 Nm of torque, getting thus closer to the M4 GTS. The sprint from 0 to 100 km is done in 3.8 seconds, at a top speed which is electronically limited at 305 km/h.
